By Georgiy Ivanov

(To Irina Odoyevtseva)

I do not beg for love, I do not sing of spring,
But only you alone, come listen to my song!

And could I really have, oh, judge it for yourself,
Looked out upon this snow, and not gone slightly mad.

An ordinary day, a normal garden, yes,
But why is it that bells keep ringing everyplace?

And nightingales sing out, and flowers on the snow,
Oh, why, just tell me now, or maybe you don't know?

And could I really have, oh, judge it for yourself,
Looked out into your eyes and not gone slightly mad?

I do not say "believe", I will not tell you "hear"...
I know, it's one and same: the snow at which we peer.

And right behind your back my love is peering too:
A paradise of snow, within it me and you.
